Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh are participating in a public forum on the 100th anniversary of Ireland’s Easter Rising, considered the birth of Irish independence.
The two prominent Irish Americans will speak at Boston College this evening at 6 p.m.
The Easter Rising occurred on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916 when a group of Irish nationalists rebelled against British rule and seized key buildings in Dublin. The uprising was suppressed. The British executed the leaders, turning them into martyrs and spurred support for the cause of Irish independence.
WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Neal about his participation in the forum.
