The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s longest-tenured music director is returning to the group’s summer home in Lenox this year.Seiji Ozawa started as the BSO’s music director in 1973 where he remained for 29 years. The 2015 Kennedy Center honoree will lead a string quartet ensemble at Tanglewood July 5th and the BSO July 9th.
“He is obviously one of the most important figures for a variety of reasons, not just the fact that he’s a great leader and led one of the world’s great orchestras,” said BSO Managing Director Mark Volpe.
Ozawa, 80, last performed at Tanglewood in 2006. Season tickets go on sale January 24th at 10 a.m.
