After more than two centuries, a church in Egremont, Massachusetts is holding its final Mass Sunday.The North Egremont Baptist Church was founded in 1787 - two years before the country even had a president. On Sunday the church will hold its final mass at 10 a.m. followed by a 3 o’clock closing service. Attending for the past 12 years, Roxanne Gawthrop is the newcomer among the congregation’s six remaining members.
“It’ll be a chance to pay our respects to an institution, a building and a congregation that unfortunately whose time has come to an end,” said Gawthrop.
The 1877 building is currently on the market. The snow date for the closing service is February 1st at 3.
