Man Says He's Quarantined After West Africa Trip

Peter Italia of Rutland says he's the person being voluntarily quarantined by Vermont health officials after he returned from a private visit to West Africa where he went to investigate the Ebola outbreak.

Italia told WCAX-TV the quarantine is voluntary, but he's under 24-hour guard. He says  if he didn't agree to it, Vermont officials would seek a court order to enforce it. He has shown no symptoms of Ebola.

Italia says he traveled on his own to West Africa and offered his services to organizations fighting Ebola, but was rebuffed.

Vermont officials have not named Italia as the man being quarantined after returning from West Africa.

He is considered at low risk of getting sick, but he will be monitored for the 21-day incubation period of Ebola.
