Vermont Man In Self-Quarantine After Africa Trip

CDC/Wikimedia

Governor Peter Shumlin says a Vermont man is in voluntary quarantine after his return from West Africa where he visited Guinea and Sierra Leone, countries that are fighting an Ebola epidemic.

The man has not shown any symptoms of Ebola and Shumlin said he poses an "extremely low risk" to others.

Shumlin says the man, whose name was not released, arrived in New York on Monday where he was met by Vermont health officials.

The man publicly identified himself as a physician but is not a licensed doctor in Vermont. He is not affiliated with any of the worldwide groups such as Doctors Without Borders that have been combatting the virus.

Shumlin says the man is quarantined in a "safe rural setting."
