Massachusetts Democrats will look toward State Senator Ben Downing of Pittsfield to lead the party during this election cycle.
The Massachusetts Democratic Party named Downing co-chair of the Coordinated Campaign Wednesday. The party acknowledged the Pittsfield native as a rising political star representing Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties since 2007.
“We’ve seen that over the last eight years, Governor [Deval] Patrick, by investing not only in ourselves but also in our communities has put Massachusetts in a leadership position again,” Downing said. “A leadership position that we weren’t in after 16 years of the tired, old ideas from Republican nominees and Republican governors. We were told that we could cut our way to prosperity and we ended up 47th in the nation in job creation.”
Downing’s co-chair is yet to be named.
