Mass. Sen. Downing Running For Re-Election

A state senator from western Massachusetts has announced he will run for a fifth term.

Since winning a 2006 election for an open seat, Democratic State Senator Ben Downing has run unopposed in every election since. Representing 52 communities in the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden District, Downing says his work is not done.

“We need to go about doing the hard work of rebuilding the middle class, creating opportunity and making sure that if someone is willing to work hard and play by the rules that they’re going to be able to get ahead in this life,” said Downing.

Noting accomplishments such as expanded broadband internet as well as regional education and cultural investments, Downing says work remains to combat poverty and drug addiction. No opponent has been announced so far.
