A New York state senator has introduced legislation to compel e-cigarette manufacturers to disclose ingredients on their packaging.
Democratic state Senator David Carlucci introduced the measure in the wake of vaping-related illnesses across the U.S. In addition, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a ban on flavored e-cigarettes and nicotine e-liquids earlier this month. And on Thursday, Cuomo said he accepts the state health commissioner’s recommendation to extend the ban to include menthol. Carlucci’s bill would have e-cigarette makers disclose ingredients to the state Department of Health before the products could be sold. The health department would have the authority to test any vaping product for dangerous substances and prevent it from being sold. Ingredients would also have to be disclosed to consumers. If signed into the law, the bill would take effect six months later.
