NY Rep. Urges DoD To Refrain From Using Project Funding For A Wall

New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney has written to the acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense, urging him to steer clear of using West Point project funding for a border wall.

The 18th District Democrat says the Department of Defense has confirmed that projects at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point are at risk of losing funding to pay for a border wall. Maloney says that Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan confirmed that he had sent a list of vulnerable projects to Congress, and that while not all of the 20 pages of projects will necessarily lose funding, they are in danger of being cut. More than $250 million in federal funds have been appropriated but not contracted at West Point for four projects — an engineering center, the West Point Cemetery, a water treatment plant and a parking structure.
