NY Congressman Plans Legislation On 3-D Printed Guns

A New York congressman says he will introduce legislation regarding 3-D printed gun files. This comes even after a federal court judge issued a preliminary injunction to block the Trump administration from allowing the distribution of such files.

Congressman Eliot Engel, ranking member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, says even with the judge’s injunction that halts the release of software for the 3-D printing of guns, he plans to introduce legislation when Congress reconvenes in September to amend the Arms Export Control Act to require that the technical information needed to manufacture guns cannot be exported via the Internet without a U.S. government license. The preliminary injunction was granted in a suit filed by attorneys general, including New York’s Barbara Underwood. She says this injunction follows a temporary restraining order the attorneys general secured last month.
