Two New York congressional members are demanding federal reimbursement for costs of securing Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan. They say New York taxpayers should not shoulder the cost for a federal responsibility.
Congressional representatives Nita Lowey and José Serrano say federal aid should cover costs incurred by New York City first responders to protect President Donald Trump and his family. Lowey says that NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill informed them Wednesday that the NYPD and FDNY spent $25.7 million on protection between Election Day and inauguration day.
O’Neill says ongoing costs for the NYPD are up to $308,000 for each day President Trump is in the city. Serrano and Lowey, the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, vow to fight for federal aid in the Fiscal Year 2017 Appropriations package.
