Two state lawmakers from the Hudson Valley say the Department of State has agreed to hold a public hearing concerning aggressive solicitations by real estate brokers.
State Senator David Carlucci, an Independent Democrat, and Democratic Assemblymember Ellen Jaffee say the New York Department of State has agreed to hold a public hearing in Rockland County in July to determine if residential property owners are subject to repeated solicitations by real estate brokers in a practice known as blockbusting. This practice refers to repeated solicitations that cause owners to believe that their property values may decrease because people of a different race, ethnic, social, or religious background are moving, or are about to move, into the neighborhood. If public testimony illustrates this practice is, in fact, occurring in Rockland, the Department of State could issue a non-solicitation order.
