Congressional Rep Condemns Timing of Mail Center Consolidation

A New York Congressman testified before postal regulators, criticizing the decision to consolidate a postal facility in the Hudson Valley earlier than planned.

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney testified Wednesday during a Postal Regulatory Commission meeting, condemning the U.S. Postal Service’s decision to accelerate the consolidation of Newburgh’s Mid-Hudson Postal and Distribution Center in Albany this year instead of next year. The Newburgh facility, a major employer in the area, is one of 71 accelerated mail-processing facility consolidations nationwide. Maloney and another Hudson Valley-area Congressman, Republican Chris Gibson, recently sent a joint letter to the postmaster general opposing the inclusion of the Mid-Hudson Postal and Distribution Center at Stewart Airport on the future closure list.
