Both Katherine and Cindy find excitement and inspiration in the natural world for their abstract work in different media – Cindy in photography and Katherine in her oil paintings on canvas. Cindy probes the minute details of colorful plants over the seasons to create her botanical abstractions, while Katherine’s work evokes elementary particles forever intertwined, no matter how far apart they are, even if separated by millions of miles."

Join us at Albany’s Yellow House on the Hill to explore the Capital City’s fascinating history on May 5th from noon to 4:00 p.m. Marking the quadricentennial of Fort Orange—the Dutch trading post that became Albany—the fair theme this year is 400 Years of Going Dutch. There will be scholars’ talks, living history demonstrations, special tours, collection highlights, exhibits by heritage partners, and family artmaking activities. Friends Union Band will perform historic tunes on 18th century period instruments 1-4pm. Come make a Delft-style tile, experience a 17th-century street-fighting demonstration, see Dutch artifacts, and learn about the excavation of Fort Orange from the dig’s lead archaeologist Paul Huey. Co-sponsored by Crailo State Historic Site, it will be a full day of activities, all exploring our region’s Dutch roots and cultural legacies.
Becky will allow you to experiment while building skill and confidence in your handling of the medium. For beginners and those with drawing experience, the session will include drawing exercises and opportunities to create artwork to take home. In a very short time span we will touch on some of the most important aspects of mastering pastels. We will begin by learning about our materials, then mark making, moving on to shadow and light, and end with a still life. Several types of paper, all pastels and necessary tools are provided. These workshops are always fun and we all learn from each other. If you have no art experience, or if you're an experienced artist who wants to learn more then this workshop is for you!
