Colonie Police Say Officer Was Attacked On CDTA Bus

Colonie, New York police say one of their officers was attacked on a CDTA bus Tuesday. 

The department says Traffic Safety Investigator Brian Curran responded to a call about an unruly passenger in front of Colonie Center around 3 p.m. Without provocation, police say 42-year-old Jerson Vargas punched Curran in the face and slammed the officer’s head into the wall and floor of the bus several times before another officer and a civilian intervened. Vargas was tased and suffered minor facial injuries. He was sedated by Colonie EMS and taken to Albany Medical Center.

Investigator Curran, 43, suffered several contusions to his head and also was taken to Albany Med. Curran has been with the Colonie Police Department for 14 years.

Colonie Police said Tuesday night Vargas would be charged when he is released from the hospital.
