Just as the Albany school district superintendent is resigning, a political action committee has been formed in Albany to back up a $180 million initiative to rebuild Albany High School.
According to the Times Union, a committee named "Support Albany High School" was registered with the state Board of Elections on Wednesday. The Albany City School District is legally prohibited from using public resources to campaign for or against the rebuild. The paper identifies the PAC's treasurer as Noelle Kinsch, a former county legislator whose husband is Albany city Treasurer Darius Shahinfar.
The revote is scheduled for February 9th. Among those opposed: conservative activist Joe Sullivan, who advocates switching election day to April 19, Primary Day.
"You're gonna have a larger turnout of voters, get a more accurate result of how people feel, and more importantly, the Albany County Board of Elections would be managing election - all the polling places would be open."
Sullivan adds by that date, city property owners will have received new reassessment notices, scheduled to go out March 1. The first renovation vote failed by about 100 votes in November.
