An inmate who smuggled weapons into the Albany County Jail was apparently trying to organize a "jailhouse gang."
23-year old Steven Sidbury of Brooklyn cut another inmate with a small knife Friday night after the man resisted Sidbury's efforts to form a gang. The Times Union reports Sidbury is a visiting inmate from Rikers Island in New York City, where he is facing murder, arson and weapons charges. He smuggled weapons hidden in his body, which avoided detection during a routine scan. He'll be charged with multiple counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and promoting prison contraband. Meantime, Sheriff Craig Apple says tells the paper jail staff has been tasked with researching technology to detect smaller weapons.
