Protests set for Iraq Anniversary

Hudson Valley Bureau – Protestors will be out around the nation this weekend on the second anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. In New York, rallies and marches are scheduled for various locales, including in New Paltz and New York City. More from WAMC's Allison Dunne.

Vermont Plans to Remove Dam

Manchester, VT – A plan to remove a 260-foot long dam in Manchester, Vermont has broad public support. There are hundreds of dams in Vermont the state says should be removed. But one official told WAMC the state has no systematic plan in place for removing the dams. WAMC's Eesha Williams reports.

Enviro Groups Say Fed Water Bill Would Help NY

Hudson Valley Bureau – A bipartisan group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives gave their support to a bill that would protect streams, lakes, wetlands, and other waters. The measure would reinstate wetlands protection authority that was rolled back a few years ago. Environmentalists says the federal measure would benefit not only the nation, but especially a state with some of the weakest wetlands protection measures in the country - New York. WAMC's Allison Dunne has more.

FOUR DAYS LATER, HE WAS CHARGED MISDEMEANOR COUNTS FOR 19 OF THEM-- 3 DAYS AFTER THAT, BARRED BY A NEW YORK STATE JUDGE TO PERFORM ANY MORE MARRIAGES, AND ONLY IN JUNE, WERE THE CHARGES DROPPED. IP Tire Burn Application Incomplete

Ticonderoga, NY – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has sent International Paper's application for a test burn of tire-derived fuel at its Ticonderoga mill back to the company, saying it lacks critical information.

DEC Proposes ATV Access Policy

Albany, NY – New York's Department of Environmental Conservation has essentially proposed banning the use of ATVs in the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserves. The public has an opportunity to comment on the proposal, and the DEC will hold nine public policy meetings. WAMC's Allison Dunne reports.

State Troopers Deployed in Crime-Ridden Springfield, MA

Springfield, MA – Springfield, Massachusetts has seen its police ranks shrink in the past two years from about 660 officers to its current level of about 460. Now the city is getting some help from the state in fighting crime. WAMC's Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Eesha Williams has more.

Developer Looks to Convert Historic Building to Condos

Pittsfield, MA – A developer is hoping that tax credits and historic grants will help complete a four million dollar renovation of an early 19th century building in downtown Pittsfield. The hope is to build luxury condominiums, and tap into the booming second-home market in Berkshire County. WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief John Krol has the story.
