Scam Advisory: We have been made aware that an online entity is posing as Joe Donahue to invite authors and other creatives onto our radio shows. The scammers then attempt to charge guests an appearance fee for exposure/publicity.

Programming Notes: September 2018

With the new fall season we also ring in a new school year and celebrate a day off for the workforce. But have you considered what would make you happier at work? Being unhappy at work hurts creativity and productivity. It's bad for our health, our home lives and the company's bottom line. Join us as we delve into the newest research that illuminates what makes our jobs more meaningful, engaging, and fulfilling. Starting off the holiday specials lineup for Labor Day is The Science of Happiness at Work from PRI at 9 a.m.

Following in the 10 o’clock hour, Philosophy Talk discusses whether we can still lead productive lives if suddenly we live in A World Without Work. As computers and artificial intelligence get increasingly sophisticated, more and more workers will lose their jobs to technology. Should we view this inevitability with hope or with despair?

Then at 11 a.m. we celebrate the life and career of Aretha Franklin in a music special produced by World Café. Special guests share what Franklin meant to the city of Detroit and how her upbringing in the gospel church influenced the music she made.

Did you miss the newest episode of A New York Minute In History? You can still hear it on your preferred podcast streaming service. But fans of the classic broadcast can also hear it on-air 2 p.m. Labor Day as part of our Labor Day Specials lineup.

Stay tuned as WAMC’s primary coverage kicks into a new gear. Primary day coverage in New York on September 13th and 14th and in Massachusetts on September 4th and 5th. Also special coverage of the senate hearings for Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s second pick for the Supreme Court.

All that and more in September!
