The Preakness

In a tragic start to Preakness day, the winner of the first race at Pimlico Race Course has died on his walk back to the barn.

History was made at the 2015 Belmont Stakes when American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, the first since Affirmed in 1978. As magnificent as the champion is, the team behind him has been all too human while on the road to immortality.

Written by an award-winning New York Times sportswriter, American Pharoah is the definitive account not only of how the ethereal colt won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, but how he changed lives.

Aaron Hernandez was indicted yesterday on first-degree murder charges. Prosecutors say the former New England Patriots tight end ambushed and shot to death two men following a chance encounter inside a Boston nightclub. The victims in the July 2012 shooting were killed in a car as they waited at a red light in Boston's South End neighborhood, a few weeks before Hernandez signed a five-year deal worth about $40 million.
