NFL:
Aaron Hernandez was indicted yesterday on first-degree murder charges. Prosecutors say the former New England Patriots tight end ambushed and shot to death two men following a chance encounter inside a Boston nightclub. The victims in the July 2012 shooting were killed in a car as they waited at a red light in Boston's South End neighborhood, a few weeks before Hernandez signed a five-year deal worth about $40 million.
The Browns have agreed to contract terms with free agent wide receiver Miles Austin, insurance in case Pro Bowler Josh Gordon is suspended. The two-time Pro Bowler was released by the Dallas Cowboys two months ago in a salary-cap move. The 29-year-old played in just 11 games last season because of injuries.
NCAA:
UAlbany men’s lacrosse will face Notre Dame on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I tournament. UAlbany beat Loyola last Saturday 13-6.
UAlbany women’s softball team will go head to head against Wisconsin tonight at 5 p.m. in the NCAA Division I tournament.
UConn men's basketball coach Kevin Ollie says he's not looking for another job despite being linked to several NBA job openings, including with the Los Angeles Lakers. Ollie just led the Huskies to the national championship in his second season since replacing Jim Calhoun. He says he loves the university and is hoping to work out a new contract with athletic director Warde Manuel. His current deal runs through the end of the 2017-18 season.
MLB:
In baseball, in interleague play, the Yankees blanked the Mets 1-0.
In the American League, Minnesota slid past Boston 4-3 in 10, Toronto doubled up Cleveland 4-2, Baltimore defeated Kansas City 2-1, the Angels bested Tampa Bay 6-5.
In the National League, in a double header, Cincinnati shut out San Diego 5-0 in the first game, San Diego topped Cincinnati 6-1 in the second, Milwaukee edged Pittsburgh 4-3, St. Louis trumped the Cubs 5-3, and it was San Francisco over Miami 6-4.
NBA:
In the NBA playoffs, Indiana outshot Washington 93-80, giving the Pacers the series win at 4-2, and Oklahoma City squeaked by the Clippers 104-98, winning the series 4-2.
Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clippers owner recently banned from the NBA, says he refuses to pay the $2.5 million fine handed to him by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. He threatened a lawsuit against the NBA if the punishment isn't rescinded.
NHL:
In the NHL, the Rangers have their first of a seven game series at Montreal on NBC at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tonight Los Angeles has game seven of its series at Anaheim.
Horse Racing:
The Preakness starts at 6:20 p.m. Saturday where California Chrome, winner of the Kentucky Derby, will see if he can take the second race in the path towards the elusive triple crown.
