At STAR Plaza: U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, Olive Niccoli, Sara Niccoli and NY State Senator Neil Breslin. Niccoli also made campaign stops the same day in Kingston, Athens and Amsterdam.

The campaign for New York’s 46th state Senate District contest has become one of the closest-watched races, ever since the district was created after the last round of redistricting.

Democrats argued the 46th was carved out specifically for then-Assemblyman George Amedore, but one of their own, Cecilia Tkaczyk, won the first two-year term. Amedore rebounded to take the seat in 2014. He's up for re-election this year and recently sat down with WAMC's Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas.
