NCAA:

In top 25 women’s college basketball, No. 2 UConn crushed UCF 100-45.

Olympics:

Organizers of Boston's Olympic bid have unveiled their plans to bring the Summer Games to the city in 2024. The privately funded group Boston 2024 made a public presentation yesterday that was just like the one that convinced the USOC to make the city the American nominee. Boston now goes up against potential bids from Rome, Paris, Germany and South Africa. The IOC is scheduled to make its decision in 2017.

NFL:

All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman still expects to play in the Super Bowl despite injuring his left elbow in the NFC championship game. Sherman says his elbow is "better than it was" during the fourth quarter of Seattle's 28-22 overtime win over Green Bay.

TENNIS:

The Williams sisters have advanced to the third round at the Australian Open, with top-ranked Serena fending off set points before going on a 10-game roll to beat Vera Zvonareva (zvahn-uh-RAY'-vuh) 7-5, 6-love and Venus beating fellow American Lauren Davis in straight sets.

Serena Williams, seeking a sixth Australian and 19th Grand Slam title, saved three set points in the ninth game before holding to swing the momentum of the match.

Sixth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska easily advanced to the third round with a 44-minute, 6-love, 6-1 win over Johanna Larsson of Sweden on Thursday.

The Polish player is now 7-1 in second-round matches at the Australian Open and has reached the third round there every year since 2010.

The two No. 1 seeds in the Australian Open are back in action this evening, U.S. time. For the men that means Novak Djokovic and for the women Serena Williams.

For the most part there have been no major upsets in the first major of the new tennis season.

SOCCER:

Goalkeeper Hope Solo has been suspended from the U.S. women's national team for 30 days and won't participate in matches next month in Europe. US Soccer did not explain the reason for the suspension.

It follows the arrest of her husband, former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Solo was in the car when Stevens was pulled over in Manhattan Beach, California, about 1:30 a.m. Monday for driving without headlights.
