Sports Report: Knicks' J.R. Smith And Iman Shumpert To Cleveland In Three-Team Deal

NBA:

In the NBA, Memphis crushed New York 105-83, Charlotte topped Boston 104-95, Dallas bested Brooklyn in overtime 96-88, Denver beat Minnesota 110-101, Philadelphia edged Cleveland 95-92, Chicago won against Houston 114-105, Washington squeaked by New Orleans 92-85, Indiana defeated Utah 105-101, Portland trumped the Lakers 98-94, Atlanta bested the Clippers 107-98, and it was Golden State over Oklahoma City 117-91.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded guard Dion Waiters to Oklahoma City and acquired guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks in a three-team trade. Cleveland received the Thunder's first-round pick in this year's draft. The Knicks obtained forward Lance Thomas from Oklahoma City and backups Lou Amundson and Alex Kirk and a 2019 second-round pick from the Cavaliers.

NHL:

Over on the ice, San Jose skated past Winnipeg 3-2.

NFL:

Allie Sherman, the diminutive son of Russian immigrants who coached the New York Giants to NFL championship games in his first three seasons, has died. He was 91. Sherman's family says he died Saturday at his Manhattan home. Sherman's Giants lost to the Green Bay Packers in the 1961 and 1962 championship games and to the Chicago Bears in the 1963 title game.

St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke is part of a development group that has announced plans to build an 80,000-seat stadium in the Los Angeles suburbs that could become home for an NFL team. St. Louis is expected to offer the Rams a new stadium proposal by the end of the month, and the NFL has said no franchise can relocate before 2016.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he'd like to see disputed calls like the one in Sunday's game against Dallas become part of replay review. With Detroit leading 20-17 in the fourth quarter, referee Pete Morelli initially announced a pass interference penalty on Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens before officials reversed themselves, leaving Detroit facing fourth down. The Cowboys scored a touchdown on the next possession to win the game 24-20.Coaches aren't allowed to signal for replay reviews of potential pass interference calls, but Caldwell indicates he'd like to see the league allow more reviews if possible.

NCAA:

U.S. Ski Team officials say a rising prospect who grew up in Franconia, New Hampshire, and trained in Vermont was among two skiers killed in an Avalanche in Austria. Ronnie Berlack and 19-year-old Bryce Astle, of Utah, were killed yesterday as they trained for the upcoming opening of the World Cup. The 20-year-old Berlack was a longtime member of the Franconia Ski Club who recently trained at Vermont's Burke Mountain Academy.

MLB:

The Baseball Hall of Fame this afternoon reveals who will be joining its ranks, with pitchers Randy Johnson, John Smoltz and Pedro Martinez all expected to be shoo-ins for election. Craig Biggio and Mike Piazza also could join the three first-ballot pitchers in Cooperstown.
