Yanks Three Games Out; Nadal Takes U.S. Open

In baseball, Baltimore doubled up the Yankees 4-2. The Yankees are three games behind the Rays in the wild-card race. Cleveland defeated Kansas City 4-3. The Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians are within 1 ½ games of Tampa Bay for the final AL wild-card berth. Minnesota passed the Angels 6-3. The White Sox beat Detroit 5-1 and Houston took Seattle 6-4.

Over to the National League, Washington crushed the Mets 9-0. Atlanta topped Miami 5-2. The Braves ended a four-game skid and reduced their magic number for winning the NL East to eight. The Cubs blanked Cincinnati 2-0. The Dodgers beat Arizona 8-1 and Colorado fell to San Francisco 3-2 in 10 innings.

In interleague play, Pittsburgh shut out Texas 1-0. The Rangers are two games behind Oakland for the AL West lead.

In the NFL, it was Philadelphia over Washington 33-27 and Houston trumped San Diego 31-28.

In tennis, Rafael Nadal is looking as good as ever, just 2 ½ months after losing his opening-round match at Wimbledon. Nadal has captured his 13th Grand Slam title by downing top-ranked Novak Djokovic in the U.S. Open final. Facing Djokovic for the third time in the last four Open finals, the second-seeded Nadal needed three hours and 21 minutes to post a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory. It's the second U.S. Open crown for Nadal, and his first since defeating Djokovic in 2010.

Finally, NASCAR ruled that Michael Waltrip Racing manipulated the outcome of Saturday night's Richmond race.
