University Police In Oneonta Arrest Suspect On Threat Posted To YikYak

University police have taken a suspect into custody in connection with a threatening message found Saturday on social network YikYak at SUNY Oneonta. In an online statement, the college announced Sunday that the message mentioned a shooting planned for Monday. While the investigation is still ongoing, the University Police Department says it is confident there is not a current threat. Read the full statement here:

I am pleased to announce that the SUNY Oneonta University Police Department has taken into custody a suspect in connection with yesterday's threatening YikYak message. This arrest comes as the result of a joint investigation involving the Oneonta Police Department and New York State Police. While the investigation will continue, UPD is confident that the message, which was reported to mention shooting tomorrow, does not present a threat. The last several hours have been tense on our campus, at Hartwick College, in the City of Oneonta, and in the homes of student's parents near and far. I appreciate the patience within these communities as law enforcement officials diligently focused on bringing closure to this situation. I also extend on behalf of SUNY Oneonta my sincerest gratitude to those who brought the threatening message to UPD's attention yesterday. Taking this initiative was critical to moving the investigation forward. Thanks to them, and thanks to our UPD and other law enforcement agencies, our students and their parents, and our faculty and staff can expect normal operations on the SUNY Oneonta campus tomorrow. Sincerely, https://www.oneonta.edu/president/newsletter/images/signature-gif.png Dr. Nancy Kleniewski President
