Shane Lowry endured the worst weather of the British Open, along with the Sunday pressure of a sellout crowd cheering him along to win the final major of the year by six shots over Tommy Fleetwood at Royal Portrush. The 32-year-old closed with a 1-over 72, the first time since 1996 that the Open champion was over par. Lowry was no worse than three shots ahead all day as he wrapped up his first major championship.

MLB

James Paxton allowed a leadoff home run for the second straight outing when Charlie Blackmon shook out of a slump and started the Colorado Rockies to an 8-4 win over the New York Yankees that halted a six-game losing streak. On the second consecutive day with a 94-degree temperature at game time, DJ LaMahieu homered on the first pitch from German Márquez in the bottom half. Márquez rebounded from his worst big league start and ended New York's five-game winning streak.

Mike Yastrzemski homered with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the San Francisco Giants a 3-2 victory over the New York Mets. The Giants hadn't had a hit since the fourth when Yastrzemski lofted a full-count pitch from Robert Gsellman the other way into the left-center stands.

Asher Wojciechowski took an unlikely no-hitter into the seventh inning, Trey Mancini homered twice off Andrew Cashner and the Baltimore Orioles beat Boston 5-0 to win their first series from the Red Sox in 11 tries since 2017. Making his 15th career start, Wojciechowski came in with a 6.49 career ERA and was facing the highest-scoring team in the majors. Boston's lone hit was a leadoff double by Rafael Devers in the seventh.

Kevin Gausman pitched into the eighth inning after missing more than a month, Josh Donaldson and Ronald Acuña Jr. homered, and the Braves beat the Washington Nationals 7-1 on Sunday night to protect their NL East lead.

Phillies manager Gabe Kapler spotted a man strolling over to the third base umpire and figured it was a member of the PNC Park grounds crew. However, Kapler soon realized he was wrong when the man, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and carrying a cellphone, turned away and walked toward home plate to approach Philadelphia hitter Brad Miller for a handshake. Long after a fan made his way onto the field in the sixth inning before being apprehended, the Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 Sunday on Rhys Hoskins' home run in the 11th inning.

In MLB news, the Baseball Hall of Fame now includes pitchers Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Lee Smith and the late Roy Halladay, along with designated hitters Edgar Martinez and Harold Baines. The six were inducted at Cooperstown on a sizzling Sunday in upstate New York. Naturally, Rivera closed the ceremony after the all-time saves leader became the first unanimous selection into the Hall.

MLS

Brian White scored, Luis Robles had four saves and the New York Red Bulls slipped past Orlando City 1-0. Robles had his fifth shutout of the season and his first since June 1 for the Red Bulls (10-8-4). He had allowed 12 goals in the previous five games.

Carles Gil had a goal and an assist, Matt Turner had a career-high seven saves and the New England Revolution beat expansion FC Cincinnati 2-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games. New England (8-8-6) is 6-0-4 since a 5-0 loss at Chicago on May 8.

TENNIS

Top-seeded John Isner used his blistering serve to overcome scorching conditions and win a title for the fourth time on Newport's grass courts, beating No. 7 seed Alexander Bublik 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Sunday at the Hall of Fame Open. It was the 34-year-old American's 15th ATP title overall. He also won at Newport in 2017, '12 and '11. The 22-year-old Bublik played in his first ATP final.

NASCAR

Kevin Harvick picked up his first NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season by holding off Denny Hamlin at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The two made contact coming out of the final turn before Harvick finished just over 0.2 seconds ahead of Hamlin for his 46th series victory and first since last November in Texas. Driving a backup car after wrecking during a practice lap Friday, Hamlin led 113 laps but couldn't catch Harvick after pitting on a caution on the 265th lap.
