The head of the second-largest public housing authority in Massachusetts is going to retire on August 1st. after almost a decade of leading an agency back to respectability following a corruption scandal.
William Abrashkin left the bench of the Western District Housing Court after 22 years as a judge to take charge of the Springfield Housing Authority in 2008.
Earlier, a federal investigation found that millions of dollars had been stolen from the authority. Former administrators received long federal prison sentences.
WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Abrashkin about his decision to retire.
