Officials say a fire at a North Adams, Massachusetts scrapyard that sent black smoke above the city Tuesday is over.
Mayor Tom Bernard says firefighting operations at the Apkins scrapyard on State Street that required assistance from departments around the region have ended.
“There were no reported injuries to fire responders, which is great news, nor was the last round of air quality this morning, nor did it indicate any reason for concern from the fire,” said the mayor.
Due to the thick smoke, warnings to city residents and business owners to close windows and shut off HVAC and AC units went out throughout the day.
