The team working on the Berkshire Flyer project says the proposed rail line between New York City and the Berkshires is moving along.
State Senator Adam Hinds – the Western Massachusetts Democrat who has championed the plan – says a report released Friday takes the Berkshire Flyer one step closer to reality. It contained a plan to market the train line, budgeting projections, and details on how visitors would make it from the train station to their destinations in the Berkshires.
“Now we’re ready to move forward with identifying the local sponsor, actually obtaining the funding for the pilot program, and then it’s time for DOT to work with Amtrak and finalize the contract,” Hinds told WAMC.
The pilot is scheduled to launch in June 2020.
