Western Massachusetts Democrat Adam Hinds says the state Senate budget will include funding for the Berkshire Flyer rail project — a key step in the long process of reestablishing regular rail service between New York City and the Berkshires.
Hinds, a Democrat from the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden district, says the Senate will fund a local transportation project.
“It includes $100,000 for the next steps for the passenger rail service from New York City to the Berkshires," Hinds told WAMC.
On the heels of a feasibility study that concluded earlier this year, MassDOT concluded that service could start as early as 2019. Hinds has promised that it will start no later than 2020.
