Former Windham County state Senator Peter Galbraith has launched a bid for the Democratic Party's nomination for governor of Vermont.
During his campaign kick-off announcement Tuesday at the Statehouse in Montpelier, Galbraith said he was running to change the system in Montpelier "that too often favors the special interest over the broader public interest."
He says he would seek to raise the minimum wage immediately to $12.50 and move to $15 an hour.
Galbraith will be vying for his party's nomination in a primary with candidates Sue Minter and Matt Dunne.
Republican businessman Bruce Lisman and Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott are seeking their party's nomination.
Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin is not seeking re-election.
