Voters in Cohoes will go to the polls August 27th to choose a new common council member.
A special election will be held after the primary race between Kathy Donovan and Adam Biggs to represent Ward 5 on the Common Council ended a tie. After absentee ballot counting, the Democrats came out even at 286 votes. The ward's tally was marred because 19 non-Democrats were apparently allowed to cast votes in the closed primary.
The Times Union reports Donovan and Biggs met Monday with Albany County Board of Elections officials to agree to the terms of the new election, including having BOE employees run the election, instead of poll workers, as a cost-saving measure.
Both candidates told the newspaper they will spend the summer campaigning.
