Vermont’s attorney general says his office will not charge four Rutland police officers for their roles in a fatal October shooting. Democrat TJ Donovan said Tuesday the actions of the officers involved in the death of Christopher Louras were justified.
Authorities say on October 8, 2019, Louras fired two rounds through the front door of the Rutland Police Department while driving. Louras did not stop when pursued by police and eventually got out of his car and started shooting at officers with an AR-15. Officers returned fire, hitting Louras. He was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Donovan said the officers “believed that they were in imminent danger of being killed or suffering great bodily harm.”
Vermont State Police conducted the investigation into the killing.
Louras was the son of former Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras.
