Two Dozen Projects Being Considered In Springfield For First CPA Grants

Two dozen projects are being considered for funding under the new Community Preservation Act program in Springfield, Massachusetts.

A voter-approved property tax surcharge has raised $1.3 million for the initial round of CPA funding.

The state law requires the money be spent on historic preservation, affordable housing, or open space.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Bob McCarroll, chairman of the Springfield Community Preservation Committee.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
