Pittsfield Police are trying to determine whether a bomb threat targeting schools and other locations in five area communities Thursday afternoon is related to an armed robbery of a city store.Pittsfield police say a call originating from a payphone near the city’s Wal-Mart around 2 p.m. Thursday threatened fifteen area targets including schools and government facilities.

Saying the call was barely understandable, police notified the proper authorities for each alleged target once they were able to decipher the list. Lenox Memorial Middle and High School was the only school evacuated.

Pittsfield Police determined the call was less than credible after a time deadline expired and the caller did not call back as indicated.

Police are now investigating whether the threat is related to an armed robbery of Dawes Avenue Variety. Police are asking anyone with information, especially people who saw anyone near the payphone between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Thursday to call 413-448-9705.
