The Berkshire Historical Society has promoted its next executive director from within its own ranks. Will Garrison has served as curator for the past four years and takes over for Betsy Sherman following her retirement.
The society is run out of the house where Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick and is located on 45 acres of field and forest. The author named the Pittsfield property Arrowhead after finding Native American artifacts on the 160 acres he owned.
Garrison previously worked for the Trustees of Reservations, Historic Deerfield and the Saratoga County Historical Society. Garrison spoke with WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Jim Levulis about the historical society and its mission.
