UConn Expands Tuition Benefits For Veterans

wikipedia.org

The University of Connecticut's Board of Trustees has voted to expand a program that gives tuition breaks to some veterans and their dependents. The program provides tuition at in-state rates to veterans, regardless of whether they are Connecticut residents.

A new federal law had mandated the program, but limited the benefits to the first three years after someone left military service.

The board voted Wednesday to eliminate that time restriction, opening the program to virtually all veterans and dependents who have served over the past 30 years.

There are currently about 900 veterans attending UConn. The Veterans Administration pays their tuition at in-state rates. But about 21 of them are from out-of-state, and currently make up the difference in tuition costs out of their own pockets.
