Newtown Panel Hopes To Receive Gunman's Records

CT.gov

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The chairman of a state commission reviewing the Newtown school massacre says he's had "fruitful discussions" with a representative of the shooter's family about possibly obtaining Adam Lanza's mental health and other records.

Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson said Friday that after talking with the family's contact, he believes Lanza's father, Peter, "wants to be cooperative" with the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission and understands "this is a story that has to be told" in order to ultimately improve community safety.

Jackson said he hopes to learn more about when or if the panel can obtain the documents over the next couple days. While Jackson said he hasn't yet asked Peter Lanza to meet with the commission, member Dr. Harold Schwartz said he still believes talking with the father could be helpful.
