More Information Sought On Lanza's Mental State

CT.gov

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Some members of a state commission reviewing the deadly Newtown school shooting want more information about the killer's mental state than what was included in a report released by State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky.

Dr. Harold Schwartz, psychiatrist-in-chief at Hartford Hospital's Institute of Living, said the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission should make a "full court press" to get additional details, including the kind of mental health officials that assessed the shooter, 20-year-old Adam Lanza.

Schwartz said it "feels almost embarrassing" to consider making recommendations on mental health policy given the small amount of information the commission has received so far.

Dr. Adrienne Bentman, also from the Institute of Living, said the commission needs "Adam Lanza's story" and the "context in which this all happened."
