In New York, an Orange County grand jury has cleared Newburgh police officers who were involved in the shooting death of a city resident. The county’s district attorney also says an independent investigation by his office found that the police were justified in using deadly physical force.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says the jury will not file charges against three City of Newburgh police officers who fatally shot 27-year-old Tyrell Fincher while trying to arrest him for firearms-related offenses. Community members had marched and demanded answers following the incident. The investigation found that Fincher tried to shoot police but his gun jammed. Hoovler says the investigation was largely based on images from police body cameras and street cameras. Hoovler, who released the images, warns that they are graphic and disturbing.
