Restoration Work Is Under Way At The Saugerties Lighthouse

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced that reconstruction work has begun to overhaul an iconic lighthouse in the Hudson Valley.

Cuomo says work began August 13 to restore and overhaul the Saugerties Lighthouse. The $478,000 project, funded by the governor's Office of Storm Recovery, will restore and repair existing bulkheads, seawalls, piers and adjacent infrastructure, which had been damaged by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Superstorm Sandy’s high water further threatened the structure. The Saugerties Lighthouse revitalization is one of three NY Rising Community Redevelopment projects in the Village of Saugerties. Work on the lighthouse is expected to be complete in the early fall.
