NYS Senator Starts Petition Against GOP Tax Plan
A Republican New York state senator from the Hudson Valley has launched a petition urging congressional leaders to steer clear of GOP tax reform that will negatively impact area residents and result in double taxation.
The House passed tax overhaul legislation Thursday that contains a near elimination of state and local income tax, or SALT, deductions while the Senate version, not yet voted open, has a full elimination. State Senator Terrence Murphy has started a petition to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, urging that they address the SALT elimination. Murphy joins a clamor of bipartisan voices in New York opposing the tax reform bill, with the SALT elimination a main target. Murphy says the repeal of SALT in New York is the equivalent of driving a car off a cliff with taxpayers strapped in the back seat.
