Indian Point 2 Was Returned To Service After Pump System Repair

WAMC, Allison Dunne

The Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant recently came back online following a shutdown June 26 after an issue with a water pump.

Buchanan-based Indian Point’s Unit 2 nuclear power plant returned to service June 29 after maintenance professionals completed repairs to the speed control system on one of the unit’s two main boiler feed pumps. These pumps are on the non-nuclear side of the plant and feed water into the plant’s four steam generators so it can be heated and turned into steam to generate electricity. Control room operators had shut down Unit 2 June 26 following an issue with the feed pump’s speed control system, which regulates pump speed to match turbine load.
