Officials Announce PFOS Blood Testing Dates For Newburgh

WAMC, Allison Dunne

New York State Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney Monday announced initial blood testing dates for Newburgh residents concerned about PFOS exposure.

The free tests will be held at two Cornerstone Family Healthcare locations in Newburgh. The state health department in September announced there would be a blood testing program for the city. In May, the public learned of PFOS contamination in the main source of drinking water for Newburgh — Washington Lake. Officials say the blood tests will be scheduled first for residents who expressed interest in blood testing either at public meetings or by having contacted the health department. Others are encouraged to pre-register for an appointment with the health department (by calling 518-402-7950 or emailing BEOE@health.ny.gov). The dates are November 1, 2, 3, 12 and 19 at Cornerstone’s Lake Street office and November 7 and 10 at the Broadway location.
