Walkway Participants Go For A World Record

Fred Schaeffer, Walkway Over the Hudson

The annual Guinness World Record attempt on pedestrian bridge Walkway Over the Hudson takes place Sunday.

Ulster County Executive Mike Hein and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro will be featured at the center of the Walkway Over the Hudson in attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Handshake Relay.  Organizers say they have signed up hundreds of the more than 1,300 participants needed to make “Handshake Across the Hudson” a success. And thanks to contributions from area businesses, kids 16 years old and younger may join the attempt for free; adults pay $10. This world record event is one of Walkway’s primary fundraising events. Last year, Walkway participants did not break the world record for the longest chorus line, but did break a record in 2012 for the longest line of people dancing the Hokey Pokey. Walkway Over the Hudson is the world's longest elevated pedestrian park, spanning from Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County to Highland, in Ulster County.
