New York has a new public park - along the waterfront in Poughkeepsie. The park opened Saturday.
An overgrown 2.7-acre parcel along the City of Poughkeepsie’s northern waterfront has been transformed into Upper Landing Park. The park is to the north of the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum and will eventually provide access to Walkway Over the Hudson’s new waterfront elevator, which is expected to begin operating in January. Walkway is the pedestrian bridge connecting Dutchess and Ulster Counties. The Dyson Foundation owns the park property and, beginning in 2014, plans to hold public discussions to determine the most appropriate uses for the Hoffman House and the Reynolds Homestead, two historically significant buildings on the property. The new park features paths, picnic tables and benches, and educational displays.
