Business owners and entrepreneurs in the Capital Region’s craft beverage, communications and hospitality industries have announced their support for the University at Albany’s plan to place a new engineering college in the heart of the city.
UAlbany is requesting $20 million in the state budget to start the project, which would revitalize the vacant and historic original Albany High school building just a mile from the state capitol. UAlbany alum Joe Bonilla is co-founder and managing partner of local PR firm Relentless Awareness:
"The investment that the University at Albany can make in our midtown Albany neighborhoods is crucially important, and the university's goal to create and build this College of Engineering and Applied Sciences right in the heart of the city is to be commended."
The $60 million redevelopment project still hinges on a significant chunk of state funding.
