Mock Funeral Held At St. Rose

Protestors gathered at the College of St. Rose in Albany to protest academic cuts announced last Friday by college president Carolyn Stefanco, who is dealing with a 9 million dollar deficit.

About 125 marchers participated in the mock funeral Tuesday, mourning the loss of 23 faculty members, 23 staffers last May and 28 programs including sociology, geology, Spanish and many others. Kathleen Crowley is a psychology professor.  "The goal of the march was to express our grief and our outrage and to demand the administration rescind these cuts and restore our academic mission."

College officials issued a statement defending the changes, saying they will "overwhelmingly benefit" students now and in the future, while noting 12 of the programs to be discontinued have a current enrollment of zero.
