A Capital Region Charter School could close due to 'academic failure' - 220 students at Ark Community Charter School in Troy may be displaced if the SUNY Trustees Charter Schools Committee agrees with findings by SUNY's Charter Schools Institute that Ark hasn't met its academic goals and its charter should not be renewed.
Ark's leadership attended the Trustees meeting in New York City, which turned out to be a lengthy session that focused on Common Core's impact on the school's performance, without which officials say Ark's record would be unblemished. One commented "we would have been a good enough school a year ago, and now we're a school for closure."
At the end of two hours, Trustees didn't reach a final decision - Ark's fate in limbo for now until the next meeting of the committee. (Date to be determined).
